On Thursday evening, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid asked unanimous consent to take up HR 3961 with an amendment to extend unemployment benefits for one week. Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell objected to the request and asked that Reid call up the Baucus-Grassley (HIRE Act) amendment to the Motion to Concur with respect to HR 2847 instead of a one week stand alone extension of unemployment benefits. Reid declined to accept McConnell's request and, as a result, McConnell objected to extending unemployment benefits for one week.

  • Bring all the unemployed into Washington and make them Senate aides and staffers. You are paying them anyway, get them some useful experience and maybe someday they will replace the knobs now in office.

  • @MisericordiaVerdader What are you an idiot?

  • An acceptable extension! SMH! Sorry but the repubs nvr seem to have the people in mind! Are you kidding me! 4.2 mill people will be w/out an income! Come on Senate do the right thing...for the people.

  • Why USA have unemployment because no country want to invested money in USA. Lots of countries stop buying USA product because of their WAR in Iraq and giving weapon to kill women and children in Gaza. Everybody have a idea Now-a-days that most of American are arrogant that's why they elected Bush 2 times to kill people. NeoCon news like Fox News pushing Obama to WAR with Iran.

Result: Increase Unemployment rate more than 15% or more. More than 50% news from Fox News is false and made up.

  • wow. not good

  • Religious conservatives - check

    Gun enthusiasts - check

    Anti-Government - check

Anti-reproductive rights for women - check

Al Quida or Republican? Both are hoping for another attack on the US so they can convince moderates of their world view: Hatred is power.

Republicans destroy the budget when they can to 'starve the beast' , they don't believe in government and shouldn't be allowed to run it.

  • What McConnel didn't mention is that the Baucus/Grassley bill also included huge give aways to corporations, which is one of the reasons that Leader Reid killed it.

  • Good they shouldnt extend it for longer than what its worth

  • We dont need MORE Unemployment benefits, WE NEED LESS TAXES FOR A BETTER WORK ENVIRONMENT!

  • I wonder if the amendment was filed earlier today.
