Senator Carl Levin attempted to set a time to bring up the Defense Authorization bill post-August recess today. Senator John McCain, however, had other plans. He objected to setting a time for floor debate for the bill, citing his displeasure with the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy being a part of the legislation.

  • He obviously learned nothing from his imprisonment. Perhaps more time would have taught him what it means to honor gay vets.

  • An angry old man thinks equal rights are a "controversial issue." Even his own wife and daughter think he's a dinosaur now.

  • McCain said here that he would wait for the military survey before debating the issue, and in december, it was published by Pentagon... 70% in the military is okay for openly gays to serve. But still, he's against the repealed. SHAME on you McCain, I LOST my respect for you. Good that DADT was repealed!!! I think his wife and his daughter are smarter than him... MY GOSH! SHAME, SHAME, SHAME!

  • John, it's becoming a bit too obvious as to why you are so frightened by homosexuality.

  • @NRG4X15QZ Look its not the gay soldiers who carry hate for the straight soldiers, its the straight who do. so if there's the risk of someone shooting other person i put my hands on fire as it would be a straight homophobic soldier shooting the gay soldier. SAd, but true

  • @gaddez

Fear........ It's the fear that gay soldiers might actually shoot straighter than the straight soldiers.

Nothing probably more humiliating to a straight guy, than to get his a** kicked by a queen

  • DADT was introduced in a defence authorization bill. Where better to repeal it than where it was introduced?

This is not even the actual vote on the bill. This is the attempt to discuss the bill. The republicans now won't even allow discussion before they vote no on a bill. Every one of them is a disgrace. I bet if they do gain seats in the senate they will be swift to complain continually if the democrats block their agenda in even the smallest way, after they have destroyed this country.

  • I fail to understand why it is that Gay's cannot serve openly.

  • McCain has sold his honor; for so little too.

  • Shameful, he speaks of soldier morale as if heterosexual soldier morale is all that matters. What about GAY soldier morale?

  • @Lttlrvrt09 Um hi, if you knew anything, you would know that DADT was passed in the Defense Budget back when it originally passed. So it is perfectly appropriate to repeal it using the SAME exact method (bill)

  • @GraceiamSAVED The reason they aren't spending more time on the economy and jobs is because the Republicans are forcing Cloture votes on practically all legislation, even legislation that they agree with. The Republicans have brought the Senate to a halt just so they can play obstructionist, now that is what I call dishonorable. And also, social issues don't get thrown to the side simply because there is a recession. Social issues matter just as much as the economy.
