Natural bristle brushes are used for oil based paints and stains. For any water/latex based stains(which is more common) and finishes(like polyurethane) you should use a synthetic bristle.
The brush does make a difference.

do you recommend Polyacrylic or polyurethane? Any do you us gloss or satin for it?
