  • No other conflict since World War II has seen as many dead as the fighting and the humanitarian crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to a report released on Tuesday by an international aid group.

The Congo conflict has taken the lives of an estimated 5.4 million people since 1998 and continues to leave as many as 45,000 dead every month, according to a mortality survey of the International Rescue Committee, known as the IRC.
