First time learning / playing with smoke simulations in Blender 2.5 this weekend. Here are some of my smoke tests.

First sequence rendered with SmallLuxGPU PathGPU mode (20 spf), composited with Blender smoke volume render (also ~ 20 spf). Using alpha transparency with smoke volume domain causes aliasing problems for compositing, would need to set "Full Oversampling", but render time would more than quadruple...

Lander's thruster was controlled using joystick in game engine, primarily, thrust = local Z force, thrust also keyframed smoke emitter's velocity and point light's (fire in smoke) energy. Just regular smoke (volume material, voxel data density, source and influence, texture).

Most smoke tests using 64 divisions, 128 in last sequence.

Please don't ask me to do a smoke tutorial, there are plenty already. ;P

  • OMg this is so coool!!! Do you know if its possible to simluate a single stream of smoke, like a cigarette or incense smoke?

  • @drumwolf22 : Certainly, I set a velocity to the smoke emitters, but you can turn that off; smoke can have any shape, so many parameters can be controlled, smoke temperature vs ambient air temperature (how fast smokes rise/falls), vorticity, etc., and you can add external wind forces to create turbulence, lots of possibilities. :)
