evening news. MP and others condemning police tactics. 700-800 people on camp. Shows barricaded gates.
police: now 10 people arrested today, 12 in total over week.
Sussex MP Norman Baker - assured by police they would come through in normal uniform but riot cops came and were needlessly provocative.
Scargill: protestors coming for wrong reasons, wrong target, wrong fuel - should target nuclear
Shows bail people turning up: most got on and were showed huge support; they got on over the fence
2 bailed people arrested.
"kevin smith" - they've already confiscated all direct action equipment so only reason to come on camp is to intimidate people; political policing; trying to talk about climate change but having to deal with riot police provoking confrontation - campers not reacting.

  • And I'm as bad as others - I know it's not sustainable, but still use the tumble dryer and air conditioning, as I'm a disabled person and really struggle without! So I'm not "holier than thou" at least I hope I'm not!

  • well MrKipps1 there's the question isn't it! The thing that I believe most people don't want to face up to is that our current lifestyle isn't sustainable. We can't keep things going for future generations, or even for our own in 20 years, and keep our current rate of consumption - and yet reducing our consumption will affect our quality of life. We're blithely carrying on, increasing our energy useage, and it's simply not sustainable.

  • weren't the protesters trespassing on someone land and went to trespass on the site. They were planning to attack someone power station. Surely that is a very criminal act. More so than riot police. They also had given them a warning to move.

  • @internetprotected123 what tapes you waching then ? sorry bout spelling

  • from the videos on here it seems the police were being pressed upon not theotherway round

  • OK, fair enough. The world is heavily dependent on cheap energy, it allows the planet to carry over 6 billion people. If we're to do without coal we'll have to do a lot more than do without our cars, warm houses and tumble dryers ...

  • Nothing. we have very few options:

    1. build coal stations and push the environment past an irriversible tipping point which may well kill us all.

    2. voluntarily reduce our consumption and discover what is important in life (too hippy for most people and not enough time)

    3. very soon be forced to reduce out energy consumption and to have it managed by beauracrats and meglomaniacs

    4. pray to god.

    good luck

  • There are protests against coal, oil ("Leave it in the ground!"), nuclear and even the Severn tidal barrier ("environmental vandalism"). What are 60 million Brits supposed to use for energy?

  • haha Scargill what an idiot, he might well be the hero of a FAILED movement and i'm sure it's hard for him knowing that he didn't manage to keep the pits open but seriously GIVE UP. Coal is really bad for everything and everyone involved in its mining and use. how can i say this? because right up the male line of my family all are miners and all died before seeing 35, thats before you look at the pollution and environmental damage done both by mining and burning it.
