I'm positive that John Coltrane would love what they've done with this song. One of the biggest parts of jazz is doing old songs in a new way. Just look at how many versions there are of the standards... If you don't like change in Jazz, you miss the point.

namaste, Jazz is meant to be tampered with. Im in a combo and over half our songs have our own tweak to them. You have to make them your own, playing jazz isn't covering a rock band. Jazz gives you not only the ability to do what they have done but the liberty to do such. It's different, it appeals to a different style of jazz listener, I appreciate this, not as much as the Coltrane version obviously lol, but i think this is good.
