In 2007 a group of twenty undergraduates from the Lyman Briggs residential College of Science at Michigan State University participated in a new summer Study Abroad Program in Paris on language, art and science (http://www.msu.edu/~luckie/paris/ ). In addition to having opportunities to study language at the Sorbonne, and compare the "science of art" to "the art of science," they participated in a senior thesis project where documentary film groups chose to investigate topics that compared contemporary issues, in science and health, of France.
This film is crafted in the style to mirror a popular television program of the era in the USA called "Myth Busters" where "Myths" are put to the test and either disproven and found to be false (busted) or are supported to perhaps be true (confirmed). This student-made documentary film examines three topics, use of public transportation (metro), use of bicycles, and recycling in the city of paris in an attempt to determine if the parisian is attempting to lower carbon emissions and fight global warming or if they are just using whatever is most convenient to them without a thought about world relevance.
The filmmakers state: "While on Study Abroad in Paris, France we noticed some distinct differences between the United States and Paris especially concerning the environment. Some simple things that we noticed were the metro system, the recycling program, and a newly implemented biking system. We started to wonder if the Parisian culture was more resourceful as the result of Global Warming or if it was simply a life style choice. We decided to make a documentary examining the myths that we observed in Paris."
This film was created as part of a senior thesis research project in a course at Michigan State University. Learn more here: http://www.msu.edu/course/lbs/492/luckie
