"Cleaning up" Taylor Mali's poetry is like taking the parts of Song of Solomon out about drinking mixed wine from his lover's navel, or removing the double-entedres from a Shakespeare comedy.

It is a prudish perversion of beautiful, intense poetry, and serves only to downgrade the delight, power, and meaningfulness of the art.

Any "teacher" who would object to Taylor Mali's language probably shouldn't be trusted with the minds of our children...

Sorry, the only point I see is the way this guy thinks who the hell he is. As if without him, my son would become an idiot. Bottom line is, if my son asks his teacher to go to the bathroom, it's because he has to go to the bathroom. He doesn't need this guy's PERMISSION. He's TELLING him, not ASKING him...
