In Memory of my Father

Hummingbird

Only my Father knew
the sound of the hummingbird's wings
as he sat quietly, and the bird gently
came whispering
closer and closer, eye to eye
until the two were a blink apart
and all that could be heard
were the fluttering wings of the hummingbird

Only my Father knew
that life is full of mysterious things
as he searched quietly, and life gently
came whispering
years and years, eye to eye
until the treasures he found, were all he had
and all that could be heard
was the laughter of my loving Dad

Only my Father knew
the sound of the hummingbird's wings
and the grace of lord's reckoning
the final whispers of loving friends
brothers and sisters, you, and I
until, that gentle sound of wings
and all of awe that could be heard
as my Father became a hummingbird...


This poem is a loving Tribute for my Father,
who fluttered away on January 12th, 2010. One of the last
things we talked about on this day, were the memories of
the hummingbirds that would come to flutter gently right
in front of him, as he sat quietly outside. I love you, Dad.
I promise that I will always sit quietly to hear your wings.
