Wee Meeka enjoys life after the DMK ohio ferret rescue.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eADmummyIkY to see the Doug McKay Ohio ferret rescue to see the horrific conditions she was found in. Eternal gratitude to those in the ferret community in the U.S. who worked tirelessly round the clock for weeks to save them.

  • Beautiful. Thank you. It's made me reconsider getting one. A friend had some in her shed and, as I sat on the floor, one launched at my face and bit my chin. It held on and drew blood. I think she was just rubbish with them and they were scared but it's left me very nervous. I can be in a pen with a huge, nervous rottweiller and handle it perfectly but put me in with a ferret or gerbil and I freeze up, lol. She's gorgeous though!

  • Oh I really hope that you do. Did you know, I've NEVER been bitten by a ferret and I"ve been involved with them for over 30 years. They are the only animals that I know who wont' turn on you if you accidently hurt you! But as you said ... if they are raised very wrongly ... very diff story. I understand the fear, really I do. I saw a McCaw bite my husband when we were first married, and to this day ... I just cant' seem to bring myself to pet them. Ferrets are such awesome pets.

  • wolfysluv , u said there's a lot of scooping & cleaning...Can ferrets be potty trained like dogs?

  • Yes they can. Usually nearly 99% hit rates in their cages if you use the right liter, pan, and set up the cage right. Outside the cage, not so much. Some are great, some are terrible. Confined to one room, you can usually get them to do very well though. They at least go "next" to the pain when they do miss lol. The trick is putting the pans where "They" want to go in a room.

  • I look forward to going through all of your vids. Glad to have discovered you. I've never known ferrets as pets. What are they related to? I'm thinking of getting a chinchilla which is a rodent.

  • Hi ya! They are very popular pets. Perfect temperments. But hi maintenance (lots of scooping and cleaning, and vet bills as high as a dogs). They are a mustelid. Related to weasels, mink, fishers, polecats, etc. They EAT rodents lolol. Chinchillas can be really neat from what I understand and if you give them lots of time, they can be very nice. Ferrets are naturally tame/domesticated. Chinchillas are technically wild. :) But very sweet when given the time.

  • Yah, dat poor ting. Lol. She was neutered. She is skinny and almost died. Click on "More" under my description, and you'll find a link to the movie that shows where she came from. It was a mass 1000 ferret rescue here in the states. Very sad ... But because of tons of caring people, it all ended up okay.

  • y does the little white ferret hav a pink, bald belleh? did it hav an operation? cute video! i luv all ure videos!

  • As far as "biting". A pet ferret who has never been abused, or neglected, or bounced home to home and has been bred well should never bite hard enough to break skin and they should never hang on and shake. A normal ferret, in fact, would DIE before ever biting someone that hurts them! Very unlike a cat or dog. They never ever bite to get out of a dangerous situation or to scold you. If they bite its not being trained or fear This is what I like about them. I mean I can trust them with people.

  • It's like their mouth is their hands. So many of them mouth contantly. Some are quite rough, but never scratch or break the skin or hang on or anything. This one was unsocialized so she is rougher than normal. Some older ferrets choose to rarely ever mouth you. But most will. Babys can really nip hard. They have sharp teeth and like puppies are teething and learning what is too hard and not too hard.
