Singer/songwriter Ann Marie Pincivero on acoustic guitar at Wally's performing her original song "The Road Not Taken" about making choices in life, missed opportunities, what if.

Lyrics -- by request:

The Road Not Taken -- An original song, music and lyrics by Ann Marie Pincivero (copyright 2006)

I've been thinking about the road not taken,
the dreams I have forsaken.
When there was a fork in the road,
did I go the right way? I don't know.
"For all sad words of tongue or pen,
the saddest are these -- it might have been."
What if is a painful game to play,
you never know the answer anyway.

Chorus: But sometimes my heart is breakin'
about the road not taken.
If I went left instead of right,
I could have had a different life.
Now I'll never get to see
where that other road may lead.

Mountaintops and clear blue skies,
kindness from a stranger's eyes --
I mourn the missed opportunities
when I ignored the doors open to me:
the silence when I might have had a voice,
the times when not choosing was my choice.
I regret my trepidation,
cowardly procrastination.

Chorus

Every moment is a chance to change it all,
to take a risk, to rise or fall.
Actions have a domino effect --
one thing leads you to the next.
So I guess there is no right or wrong.
You live your life, you sing your song.
Just enjoy the road you're on,
instead of missing the one that's gone.

Chorus

Thanks for listening to this song! I guess we all reach a fork in the road at some point in our lives. And sometimes you wonder where the other one might have lead...

Cheers,
Ann Marie

  • you know there is a very famous poem called the road not taken? by robert frost?

  • @meowmeow0812 Of course! I love that poem! That was the inspiration for the song. In life there are many points where we reach a fork in the road and have to decide which way to go. Like the poet, I too took the one less travelled by...Of course you always wonder about the road not taken, what might have been...

  • i want my class to sing this song as a song finale on our english olympics...can I have the guitar chords pattern of it? thank you.

  • @elfranzhappy Thank you so much! I'm flattered! The chord progression is: GDCD for the verses & CDGD for the chorus. :)

  • Really nice...I was thinking of a better strategy on introducing "The Road Not Taken" by R Frost to my English Class and I found it! this video helps a lot in elaborating the poem... I will show this video to my students and let them memorize this song and perform it to class...thanks!

  • @elfranzhappy Thank you so much! It means a lot to me. I specialized in English in university. I love poetry. (I've had a few of my own poems published.) It is a huge compliment to think I could be part of a lesson on Robert Frost's famous poem! There have been a few times in my life where I reached a fork in the road. It's hard to decide which way to go. You always wonder what if you'd gone the other way. Follow your heart. The road less travelled by is usually the best choice... :)

    Cheers,

    :)

  • Thanks TheWinnieYu! I'm flattered! It's a great poem. I'll try to remember my lyrics and post them here now...

  • I really like your song. I love the lyrics. I am an English teacher and I am introducing Robert Frost's 'The Road Not Taken' to my students and I want to let them listen to this song, but they need to see the lyrics to understand it. I wonder if I can have the lyrics of this song.
