Elvis Presely's rocket ride to the top was fraught with controversy. Preachers, parents, bigots and pundits warned about the harm the young singer was doing to the country. But he found his defenders who began to warm to him. One of the major voices in the country at the time was Drew Pearson. Pearson thought Presley just might last if he cleaned up his act.

  • "I predict!" Sounds like Criswell! LOL!

  • My prediction for you Mr. Pearson is, 13 years from that show, you will be dead.

  • "My prediction: Elvis will be forgotten in ten years... and we will have bases on the moon."

  • Well I guess he muffed up that prediction. Was he around to talk of the Beatles as well?? This was filmed in 1956.

  • Interesting, his two predictions. One thing he did not predict , which I found amazing, was his drafting into the US Army, which was mandatory at that time. Had he done so, then the two predictions he made, both wrong in themselves, would have dovetalied nicely and produce what his drafting, and serving in the US Army as a regular enlisted man, with a trip to where it was hottest then, near the border with East Germany, actually accomplished. The taming of Elvis Presley.

  • Wait a sec!. @3:10 is a lie. Vernon went to jail and Gladys HAD to work! And i dont think she was a waitress either.

  • @knowingElvis Stick to his field? He was considered a joke regarding politics as well. FDR called him a chronic liar and harmful to the United States and many countries. He stated the reason why Reagan got divorced to Jane Wyman was because he was gay and would never have a long and happy marriage with Nancy Reagan. This guy was a complete joke who would make up stuff for ratings.

  • @ahm1977 There are references to his film LOVE ME TENDER (released November 1956) but no reference to him entering the service (1958). DVD's of his show from 1950 to 1957 are available and include this broadcast. So the window would be between November 1956 and 1957.

  • ANYONE KNOWS WHICH DATE THIS WAS BROADCAST??
