Hey. I'm Demi. I'm just a simple girl from a simple town who's loving life.
I have the two best friends a girl can possibly ask for.
Her name is Selena. She's been with me through, like, everything! When I need someone to talk to, she's there for me.
He's Nick, my other best friend. He's like THEE best guy in the world. It's really no wonder why I became good friends with him. Well.... that and the fact that I have a crush on him. I mean, who wouldn't? He's kind, friendly, funny... not to mention freaking cute! But that's our little secret, no one, and I mean NO ONE knows that I like Nick. Not even Selena knows!
They're really the best... until that faithful day.
I was sitting in History class, doodling on my notebook, when I got a text message. Luckily, I was sitting at the back of the class with Nick right in front of me & Selena 2 seats away from my right. I opened the text message since the teacher stepped out for a while.
"Hey Dems, can I tell you something?" It was a text from Selena. I leaned over to look at her & nodded. "Dems, I'm starting to like him," she texted. I looked over at Selena & mouthed "who". She simply looked at Nick and in an instant, I knew who she was talking about. I texted back, "No freaking way!" I was simply pretending to be excited to hide the fact that I liked him too. Then the teacher came back in the room & I quickly shoved my phone in my pocket, hoping he didn't catch me holding it in the first place.
As we walked towards the canteen after History class, Nick whispered to me if we can talk. I simply nodded, silencing the chills that ran through my spine as his breath hit the tenderness of my skin. We told Selena that we would be back after a few minutes & that we would just catch up.
"So, you needed to tell me something?" I inquired.
"Uhm, yeah. Demi, I need to tell you something," he said, looking down at the ground.
"Hey, you know you can tell me anything."
"I know," he nodded.
"So, what is it?"
"I...I like..."
"You like...?" I asked, my heart started to pound twice the normal.
"I like Selena."
"Oh," was all I could say. My heart felt crushed.
"I was wondering if you can help me... you know."
"Yeah," I nodded, "I know. Help you get her."
"Do you read minds or something?" He said, trying to lighten the mood.
"No. I just kinda saw it coming," I smiled a fake smile, something I can't tell apart from a real one.
"So will you?" He asked again. I could have sworn he shoved his hand in his pocket to cross his fingers secretly.
"Sure," I nodded, even if it killed me, who was I to get in between them. "Just promise me something."
"Anything for you," he said as he brushed his finger on my cheek making the chills run through my spine again.
"Promise me that when she's your girlfriend, you won't forget about me."
"Of course I won't! You're my best friend!" He hugged me tightly then & I loved it, even if it lasted for a few seconds.
We walked back to the table & joined Selena who was going through her phone.
"Hey Sel. Sorry it took a little long," Nick smiled a sweet smile, the kind that he flashes to selected girls.
"No problem," Selena smiled back.
For the whole duration of lunch break, I was-most of the time- silent. I was debating in my mind whether my decision was right. I mean, I like Nick and all that but Selena was my best friend. I came to the conclusion that at the end of the day, their happiness is all I care about.
---TIME SKIP. TWO MONTH LATER---
So here I am, sitting in the same table with Nick & Selena. Nothing has really changed really. Just the fact they are an item now. Nick asked Selena out & POOF! They've been boyfriend/girlfriend for two months now.
Every time I see them together, it kills me a little. I feel so.... So.... left out. Yeah, I'm there with them but it's like I'm invisible. They only talk to each other. That's all! It's like, if I left, they wouldn't even notice I'm gone!
At times, I imagine telling them "You know what? You both act like I'm invisible! Have you ever looked back? If it wasn't for me, you two wouldn't be together!"
I feared the reaction of Selena & Nick... Especially Nick. So I shook the idea of that ever happening out of my head.
"Demi, are you alright?" Selena noticed me for the first time this lunch break.
I looked up at her & Nick, whose hands are intertwined on the table.
"Demi, are you crying?" Nick leaned over the table & stretched his arm across the table to wipe away a drop of tear on my cheek. It was only then when I noticed I was crying. I stood up then, grabbing by bag, "I'm sorry." With that, I ran off to the roof garden of the school.
Selena knew something was wrong & said, "I'm gonna go talk to her. Something's really wrong." She stood up, planted a kiss on Nick's cheek & followed me.
