Should people pay more for fattening goodies? Can it solve the problem of obesity? How will the money raised be used by the government? And would a fat tax actually stop people from consuming their beloved chocolate brand or donuts? CrossTalking with Meme Roth, Philip Ridley and Robert Ferguson.

  • way to go, robert ferguson. he kicks all 3 of their arses. great debate!

  • I'm all for the fat tax!!

  • I agree with Robert also--what exactly has MeMe accomplished?? Nothing. She spouts her opinion, in a nearly hysterical fashion (laughing at nothing in particular during conversation). That's all she does.

  • MeMe Roth...LOL. Philip was quite correct in stating that the United States has been pushing the low-fat/high-carb failure of a diet/eating plan for decades. It's just that--a failure. The only ones benefiting are food manufacturers and diet quacks writing books pushing this idea.

  • Wow, once again Roth is extremely rude and refuses to let others talk, because she knows her rhetoric will be disproved. She also repeatedly belittles other persons in the conversation with her snide and sarcastic attitude and comments. Claiming that the one person for example, "No one knows what you're talking about anymore". I think she's quite the one who's rambling on. How annoying. I'd like to hear other, more informed points.

  • Interesting topic, although I was distracted by the attractive redheaded host also.

  • @VIVANOVACHICAGO There are filters now for water that take out flouride and companies that sell water that is flouride free if you dont agree. So theres no excuse to not drink water. Also their is organic food companies out there and you can make your own(Grow your own plants, make your own drinks, etc).

  • Tax fat people, not the food. We already tax cigarettes. A study following almost 50,000 people showed that being overweight was as unhealthy as smoking 1/2 pack per day.

And btw. Fluoride is a good thing to add to water. Just like Iodine is a good thing to add to salt. I'm not sure the basis of your reasoning. My ideas were learned in medical school.

  • @VIVANOVACHICAGO Yes, I'm quite torn on the issue of adding flouride to the water supply. There are documented differences in tooth decay between people living in areas with flouride in the water and without (naturally or not). But I'm sort of stuck at the ethical issue of "forcefully" medicating entire populations (possibly) against their will. But the levels put in water by officials is not dangerous to humans. :)

Ah, sorry about the misunderstanding. :)

  • @Lemonz1989 Very interesting, & happy you made note of the extra fluoride being introduced to water supplies. Notice recently that many areas are removing it from their drinking supply via vote. That aside, I'm sorry you thought I meant Fluoride will induce sleep, I was referring to " They Live - We Sleep". A MUST MOVIE! Be good to yourself & others - we just may dance. ^_^
