She is childish and immature, but she's 16. They did take some liberties here. The other extreme are actresses 30+ who play Esme as though she is a $2 hooker.

mmh, plenty of time til Quasi heard the whistle, got down from the bell, got his sword and limped to her rescue, and still Frollo hasn't get past her frock. you can clearly see he's got no experience with women

I wonder why everyone seems to think that Esmeralda has to be a nice person; that definitely was spoiled by Hollywood. in the novel she's young, naive, shallow, dumb and extremely annoying (if you think her in terms of the real person which she's not) and I'm glad they kept the trait. I absolutely loath those adaptions which make her a sympathetic character or, even worse, one that challenges the authority (see Disney). That's soooo way off from Hugo's intention

this was my least favorite of all the hunch back movies, the only finely potraided character here being Frollo, and they even deny him the compasionate side he has for Quasi.
