Miri is a town in Malaysian borneo, it is an unknown dive destination with some beautiful reefs. Unfortunately from time to time fishing nets get lost, this is the story of a group of divers removing nets from the reef. Miri and the N. Sarawak / Brunei coast has some wonderful reefs. This project was in concert with Shell's "Project Better World" and the Piasau Boat Club.

  • Do you rent your scuba gear? You don't sound like the average Miri"an". Ha ha ha..

  • No lah, I'm from UK, work in this city and love it. Belong to dive club, have own kit.

There is a dive operator here though called Seridan Mulu, its out of season right now but the diving is nice.

  • Brilliant, well done. I´ve dived for 3 years my self and I would really want to join you doing this thing that actually matters. But who are the divers? I want to join the, may be I´m still a bit young (15), but I would really want to help. Please, if you know who they are. Reply :)

  • This group is a dive club called the piasau boat club - google us - we dive in N.Borneo, SE Asia , part of Malaysia. Anyone can help clean up their local reefs. I've been part of several cleanups. stay away from net until you really know what you're doing though.

  • Do you mean fishing nets or the internet? :P Hehe, ok. Malaysia, I´ve never been there, but it would be fun. Do you know anything helpful so I may get my parents to go there on vecation?

  • Well its educational Malaysia has huge biodiversity, tallest mountain in SE ASIA, reefs with highest biodiversity in world (along with indonesia and phillippines) and then sooo diverse in human culture too - hundreds of cultures living very peacefully (muslim, christian, animist, taoist and cultures e.g. Malay, Chinese, indian, native tribes such as Iban, Kadazan etc) and lots of interesting history e.g. WWII / malayan emergency (like Vietnam but anti commies won)
