PennDOT Tow Plow

This is a video of the innovative TowPlow being used on Pennsylvania highways. Invented in Missouri and widely used there, the TowPlow is a steerable trailer equipped with a snow plow moldboard and cutting edge that allows the snow plow truck driver to plow a much wider path than could be done with the truck alone.

Benefits of the TowPlow include fuel and labor savings as well as lower initial and maintenance costs as compared to an additional snow plow truck.

As you can see, the TowPlow allows one driver to plow the width of pavement as would normally be plowed by two trucks. This results in a significant reduction in fuel usage and labor costs. In effect, the production the driver and snow plow truck are doubled.

The TowPlow has been used on urban multi-lane highways and rural four-lane divided highways. The TowPlows can be equipped with a spreader for granular snow melting materials or a tank for dispensing liquids.

This innovation truly allows the highway agencies that own them to do "more with less".

How does that plow work if it's running on the crown of the road? If that plow is 20 ft long it has to be hitting a crown and not scraping the entire road with the plow somewhere. We tried one in Connecticut and they never got one. They got us a double wing instead which works great.

If you want to get round these then you are a moron! You'd only be doing about 25-30 if it wasn't there plus you have more chance of crashing, we should have something like this in the UK
