On 4 December 2011 steam locomotive R707 ran a short train along a number of Melbourne suburban lines. Here we see the train on the Frankston line as it approaches Ormond station.

R707 is carrying a special headboard indicating the train is celebrating its 60th year of service.

Further information about this locomotive can be found at http://www.707operations.com.au

  • Stretching the budget going all that way to shoot video Michael.......perhaps you walked.

  • @Rocketboy1950

7km round trip, a tad too far to lug my camera and tripod.

  • Nice catch. Still amazes me that so much of the Melbourne suburban system is unfenced. You'd never get a shot like that in Sydney; well certainly not an R Class.

  • @Crosshead1

R766 has been gauge converted to standard gauge so you may well get some shots of her running in Sydney one day. Although you're right about having trouble finding an unfenced area mext to train lines in Sydney.
