Li Jie (Chinese: 李潔; pinyin: Lǐ Jié; b. 1981) is a Chinese classical guitar virtuosa.
She began studying the classical guitar at the age of 11 (Chinese age) under Professor Chen Zhi (陳志). One year later, she appeared as a performer on the television program "Classical Guitar's Technique and Performance" of China's official national television station CCTV. In 1995, she enrolled into the Middle School (high school) of the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music (CCM) in China. In 2000, she was admitted to the CCM.
She has received tremendous international attention and has highly praised by many celebrated masters, such as Professor Michael Lewin of The Royal Academy of Music, John Williams, Alexander Sergei Ramirez, and Lachine Suzuki, to name a few. Irma Costanzo of Argentina especially appreciates highly Li's performance. She said: "I believe I will appreciate your concerts on the world stage."
To no one's surprise, Li Jie won the 2nd International Guitar Competition in Hong Kong in August 1998.
Li Jie was among the group of three girls, consisting of Li Jie, Wang Yameng, and Chen Shanshan, named "God's Favored Girls - Super Trio". Their consummate skills and enthusiastic style were warmly welcomed at Beijing Music Hall and other concerts all over China
She has also performed in a quartet formation (Four Angels ) with Wang Yameng, Su Meng, Chen Shanshan.
Videos of Li Jie's impressive performances of highly difficult classical and contemporary pieces from the VCD Classical Guitar Masterpieces can be found on Youtube.com.

  • That was beautiful, thank you!!

  • wlwak you don't know what you're talking about.

    A York did in fact conceive this as a classical jazz piece and that's why he also played it on a steel string guitar! The harmonies are those of jazz and York was one of the best composers for introducing jazz into the classical repertoire back in te 80's. He also played jazz with Pierre Bensusan and Al Di Madeola. As for the explosive quality, title alone say's it all. "Sunburst"! So mynightrise is right on and your full of it so clean up yerself.

  • She sits like a man. Well if she's going to sit like that, may as well spread eagle.

  • Una grande chitarrista Li Jie

  • @mynightrise exactly.

  • @axelinsky ==

  • I love her shoes!

  • How do you know A York conceived the piece as a folk/jazz ''feel'? Maybe he conceived it as a classical feel but didn't have the technique to realize his own conception so he settled for a folk/jazz feel since he knows that better?

    There is something irritatingly pompous about people like you who comment on people whose behinds you aren't fit to wipe.

  • Flawless technically and a fairly good and balanced classical interpretation but borring because it lacks the folk/jazz feel and explosive qualities that A.York conceived when he composed this virtuoso type of show piece.
