In diesem Video zeige ich, wie man aus einem Reagenzglas ein Ameisenglas macht, in dem eine Königin eine Kolonie gründen und auch eine Weile darin leben kann.

The video shows how to turn a test tube into a founding chamber for ants. You can also put other insects inside and watch them - please set them free where you found them afterwards. The trick with this ant tube is the microclimate between the cotton batting plugs. Between the water tank and the air outside, a small local atmosphere forms in which the queen can survive.
Never expose the glass to direct sunlight! Otherwise it will "rain" inside and the ants drown.
Don't use distilled water - tap water is just fine. Wash your hands before handling the cotton batting or you will have fungus gardens inside the glass very early.
Store the tube horizontally in a dark and calm place.
Queens that found claustral don't need any food in the first weeks, they have fat reserves and use their wing muscles.
When you feed, don't feed pure honey water directly into the tube, it may run down and the ants and breed drown in it. Use a piece of paper or cotton soaked with the honey water.

  • @styla123456 Leg die Watte auf die Reagenzglasöffnung

  • so.. uhhh can the Ant drink form the cotton batting plug? should put sugar in the water Ants likes it :3

  • Orn1984 is right, no sugar to the water! They need tap water there. Sugar they find somewhere else.

  • how in the hell does air get in to the tube if its full of cotten???

  • You are right, in hell no air is able to enter the tube because it is full of cotton. But everywhere outside hell an exchange of air and water is happening through the plugs.
