  • These new maths algarithms are too big and complicated to do in your head while calculating how much change you'll get in a shop. They serve only to waste time. And an entire textbook that teaches complete dependance on calculartors is just... it's almost like GIVING people a mental crutch. If I had to rely so much on a calculator I'd never be able to do animation.

  • The new cash register girl at work can't add 70+50. she needed a calculator. Eck! She laughed and proclaimed that she didn't like math, like she should get a metal for it. Baby sign laguage is a great example of for kids not adults. Its not normal sign language but just as difficult, but for babies.. WTF?

  • I'm sure you knew this, but when they made the first talking Barbie doll, one of the things she said (aside from "Let's go shopping") was "Math is tough."

    *slaps forehad* GAH.

Websnarf did a video on the "new math", and I couldn't agree more. Traditional long division and multiplication techniques are fine, faster, and the new math doesn't really explain the concepts any better.

  • Barbie is a pocket version of a blow up doll. they should have just given her 2 slots. One for cash and the other one having to do that birds and bees speech thingy. My niece has bratz. (one was in a video of mine) They're revolting. If you pull their string they say "I ain't need no learnin ift you axed me."

  • I don't know which is scarier; an adult who can't do simple maths, a person who proudly proclaims their ignorance like it's a good thing, that this person has a job behind a cash register, or that kids in the most powerfull nation on Earth are being taught stuff that has absolutely no relevance to adulthood.

  • Math itself isn't man-made, it just takes man-made theories to explain it. And what is to say what is or isn't perfect in the scheme of things, especially in math which is such a massively open ended subject its like saying how long is a piece of string.. Concepts of math are different and were throughout ancient earth.. but all the anceint civilisations who had a high knowledge of math had their basis on addition, substitution, multiplication and division from which all math stems from.

  • The secret to doing math in one's head is knowing how to redefine an equation into something simpler.

Take the conversion of Celcius to Farenheit, for example. Instead of remembering that 1.8 times crap, try this:

Take your base Celcius and double it. Then take a tenth of that and add it to 32. Return the difference back into your previously doubled number, and viola!

    I can take a random number...oh, say...

    314 degrees Celcius

    and get

    597.2 Farenheit

    With little trouble.

  • Indeed

  • u look fucken scary in the video fucken texas chainsaw massacre shit lol,,

  • Absolutely correct. I am a computer programmer and doing math(discreet math) practically everyday is how I earn my daily bread! :) So right on! Math rocks!

  • Math is man-made. It isn't perfect, e.g., x divided by 0, i, and 1 = 0.99999...

If we found an intelligent race of aliens, they would probably have a different concept of math.

  • Math rocks!

  • I used to learn music with a Recorder (you know, those anoying wooden flute things) Now, a recorder makes this anoying sound, and NO real musician uses a Recorder.

There is a precious, precious amount of time when kids will absorb anything you tell them, this time should be used to it's full advantage, not wasted on skills that are fully intended to be thrown out and replaced with new skills when they get older.
