I shot this video to show the sound of an ophicleide. I was just improvising this melody, and was taken on a nice casual sunday - hence the shorts and T-shirt. Apologies for the legs....
This instrument dates back to around 1836 (Yes this individual instrument) and I suspect was made by Gaudrot, although there are no markings.
I love the colour of sound that the ophicleide makes, and I feel very fortunate to have a beautifully playing instrument after much restoration.

@megamouck it's the big cousin of the keyed bugle and was fairly popular at one point. as you can maybe hear it is a brass instrument that has some qualities of the bassoon and saxophones. i personally want one in alto Eb or F for a french horn-basoon hybrid kind of tone.
