Desmond Wilson, twice Lord Mayor of Nottingham who made a rich contribution to the city of Nottingham, the communities of Radford and St Ann's, and more widely in the East Midlands region and nationally, has been awarded the honorary degree Doctor of Laws by The University of Nottingham.

The Doctorate is a mark of significant distinction given to very few by the University. It recognises his outstanding contributions to the West Indian community and to the people of Nottingham, as well as generations of schoolchildren and international students at The University of Nottingham.
