CHANGING SF4 PC SKINS:
1) First you need to find a custom skin file online. They are .EMZ files. Only a few exist right now, but more are coming out.
2) Find your SF4 Characters directory on your PC.
Retail version is usually: "C:\Program Files\CAPCOM\STREETFIGHTERIV\Battle\Chara\"
Steam version is usually: "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\street fighter iv\Battle\Chara"
3) Go into the folder of the character you want to change. NOTE: they are listed as the Japanese names so Boxer is really Bison or the folder "BSN".
4) Get the name of the custom .EMZ file you downloaded and be sure to MAKE A BACKUP OF THE ORIGINAL first. For example, Chun Li's file is "CNL_01_05.col.emz" so rename your original to "CNL_01_05.col.OLD" and copy the new one from the zip file to this folder.
5) Take note of the number at the end of the file name because it tells you which color to use in game to see that texture. For example: "CNL_01_05.col.emz" has a 5 at the end, meaning Color #5 = custom skin.
5) Start the game, select the right color and enjoy. If you have any problems, restore your backup file.

NOTES:
-CHANGE THESE AT YOUR OWN RISK. If you delete something or mess it up, it's on you so be careful!
-This only works on PC.
-The file name explains which color you need to choose to see it. For example: "CNL_01_05.col.emz" means Color #5 so you must unlock that color first.

  • does it work on the ps3

  • @dragontoothboy No. PC only.

  • how do i find my SF4 Characters directory on my PC?

  • @xiiBubble: It's in the movie description to the right.

  • but how can I put that folder in my PC?

  • @xiiBubble: There are detailed instructions in the Shoryuken link provided too. If it still doesn't make sense to you after that, you might not want to risk editing files. Good luck.

  • @morydees34 Free to plaY?!

  • A .rar is like a .zip file. You have to unpack it using a zipping program and then copy the file into the correct folder.

  • i added the shin akuma skin but its a "rar." file..so how do i change it?

  • This is correct!

  • you can change the numbers! download a free hex editor scroll to the bottom and change the number there you need to do it twice ............rename the file to your new number you changed and replace it in your char folder ALWAYS back your orig up as some conflict!!.. and you can copy it over to get your game running again ...i would like to thank all the modders out there for all the super skins you all ROCK!

  • Yes but only YOU will see the new costumes, they will still see the old ones.

  • Does this work on Live?

  • ok..so if i change "02" to "01" what can happen?(sorry for my crappy english, i speak spanish!

  • If you're changing a file that starts with "02" it means it's one of the DLC purchased costumes. You have to purchase those first before you can use the custom ones based on them.

Any of the "01_xx" files you can do for free but some of the newer, more detailed ones require you to buy the DLC from Capcom first.

  • it doesnt work on me..i do everything step by step, i change the name to "old" i copy the new "emz" file & nothing..the file i choose is SKR_02_01" and nothing happened.¿what im doing wrong?

  • yeah

  • Yeah, unfortunately the file has to be completely re-done to change the number since it's in the code. I wish we could just rename it!

  • thanks it works great but i hate how you cant change the numbers on the colors...there's 2 akuma skins and i want both but they both take the second color slot.....

  • Yes you just copy it to a different directory (I listed Steam specifically in the description test). Check it out!

  • does this work on steam?
