This is a short video showcasing my mini Sioux Tipi. It's an exact replica of a full size tipi with fully functional smoke flaps and 20 oz fire retardant duck canvas. You can check it out at http://www.tipi.com/kidstipi.html. While I really like the tipi, I'll probably sell this one and buy something larger.

UPDATE: Well, I ended up sleeping in the tipi that night. What a comedy it was. The temperature dropped to -15 C and to keep warm I was feeding wood into that little stove. Since I didn't use a draft tube, which I learned about later, the smoke became unbearable. The hole in the top allowed cold air and snow to blow in, and by 2:30 in the morning I stumbled into my house. I'll have to do some research before I try that again.

LATEST UPDATE:

I've sold this tipi to someone who plans to live in it for a year. I'm excited to hear how she does. Perhaps she'll make some videos.

  • Also that hobo stove produces huge amounts of carbon monoxide compared to a standard camp fire. In wood gasification, which is what a hobo stove is doing, up to 27% of the combustion inside that thing is carbon monoxide burning. Whatever doesn't burn goes into your tent. This is far more dangerous than just having a little camp fire on a pan or running a camp stove to stay warm.

    Stay Alive! Cheers.

  • @TRX250r08 True, true and true.

  • would this be sustainable long term, even during snow storms and rain? im looking to get out of paying rent by living in a friends yard in a tipi or some type of shelter..what can you recommend?

  • If you are going to have a fire inside a tipi then you need to build it large enough for it. Imagine trying to have a fire in a normal sized camping tent, that is what you are doing here. It should be at least 15 feet high measured along the poles from the ground to the top of the canvas. There is a reason why native Americans don't build little easy to transport tipis. Once done, you need to have the smoke flaps open and a place for fresh air to come in along the bottom.

  • folame ahí dentro

He should open the smoke hole when he is running the stove to let the combustion gases out and he should open side of the tipi.

  • watch using that hobo stove, even with over head venting out the roof still a lot of CO2 can accumulate in the tent. If you feel sleepy or get a headache at all that means oxygen shortage in the tent so opening your door a little while burning will off set that problem.

  • Great vid! I would love to try one of those out.

  • WHERE DO YOU PEEPEE IN YOUR TEEPEE?

  • Great vid! Pretty cool tent you've got there! I want one!!
