Commissioned by David Herbert in 2006, the Sketches was originally scored for Cello and Timpani. The 3 sketches: Moderato, Tempo de Tango and Agitato all shown rhythmic and musical ideas that the extended timpani could do.

Agitato is the most soloistic one, Mr. Herbert requested the composer to rearranged this movement into this solo. The piece started with a thematic 3-2-2 rhythmic figure, the timpanist required to spin and dance with the rhythm. A groovy and a rhythm modulated section showcase the back beat of the timpani as well as testing the new speed limit of the timpanists hands, these sections are agitated (disturb) by the original thematics 3-2-2 figure. This is another 2 minutes tenor timpani piece that challenge and inspire those who would like to become a tenor timpanist, it is an agitated mood, it is nervous, and it is exciting.
As always, tenor timpani also is something great to SEE and Experience, Enjoy!!
