  • can you use two different types of routers like a belking and then netgear for the repeater

  • I believe they need to be the same, but not 100% sure... (you could try it and tell us :-)

  • well, it's your SSID. Click on the wireless network icon on the taskbar, or go to Start, Connect to, and see what networks are available, if there's only one and your router's functioning, then that's the name. (unless whoever set up your router chose not to broadcast the SSID, in which case it won't show up). If multiple networks show up and you don't know which is yours, turn your router off then on and see which one pops up. Some routers have the default SSID listed on a label on the router.

  • Or, you could reset the router and go through setup again, it will tell you the default SSID and give you the oppty to rename it then

  • I do layer 2 wireless bridging using an E2000 and a WRT54gl. I am not sure this repeating is layer 2 since one router has to be base.

  • To answer everyones question, you can use two different routers when setting up your repeater bridge. You can use a Linksys as the base and a Netgear as the repeater. Doesn't make a difference in the brand name as long as its a router. :)

  • i have a question, say i did all the video told me to do and i set up the repeater in another location in my house, but can i then connect an Ethernet cable from the repeater then plug it into my other desktop computer and give that computer internet that way, because i have two computers and want to set up my extra computer in another room

  • will this work with CISCO routers?

  • I use a Linksys G Router, can I use a Linksys B Router as the repeater or do I have to get another G Router to extend my wireless network.

  • Oh ok,

I live in Canada, Ontario :S

  • if you have "bell internet" (att), you probably have a combination router/wireless access pt. Based on your questions, you will need help....either a local IT (computer) consultant or ATT tech support (probably frustrating). Where, in general, do you live?

  • Oh ok.

    I have bell internet.

    They only use modems.

All there modems are only 30 feet range can I extend that?

    If so how?

  • easy...with magic...im a caster!

  • stop cursing for no reason. check the antenna on the router is secure. If you know how to get into setup, see if there is a setting for "radio power"...could be set to low (someone would have had to set it to this). Does your laptop connect ok at a distance to other APs? Are you sure the internet connection itself is not dropping? Do you see other WIFI signals that are stronger in the room you are trying to use it in?
