Great video! Hope you have more. Moved to Syracuse when I was 5. But Mom brought us back almost every weekend. Grandparents (Bill & Ann Kreger) lived at 206 East Ave. during the time of this vid. Great memories of Lyons & Eyer parks. The community pool. Grandpa taking us to Mauro's downtown, buying us soda and playing pool.
I was born in East Rochester in 1934 and lived there until I went to undergraduate college. I remember Mr. Parotta who had his photography studio on Commercial Street diagonally across from St. Jerome's church, as well as his daughter Judy. I am very grateful to him for having had the foresight to preserve a record of the environment in which we grew up.It is unfortunate that the cohesive town was destroyed by the mall set in its heart. It was a good place to grow up. I still consider it home.
I lived in ER from age 4 to age 18, went into the Coast Guard after graduation in 1965. I remember a LOT of what was on that video and it brought back memories of being a typical small town kid. It's sad that ER had decided to try for a change. I left ER after the military to move to Alaska and never returned. Heard of the changes and failures of the town, didn't regret leaving. My fondest memories were meeting my best friend Ziggy, his brother and cousin Jo Jo. Still keep in touch.
