I'm not sure exact age of my hen since I purchased her as a pullet. Estimated she is only 5-6 months old now. Today she layer her first egg which is a nice surprise since it was not expected until march. Only issue is that it is a small egg and she is a big hen, will her eggs develop larger as she matures?

@ troopielocs, I read about it.. agressive Roosters.. you have to quickly lift'm up with your feet.. scoop'm up in a manner that's not kicking.. and stand ground.. the bird has to feel overpowered.. and will avoid contact.

love how you keep your chickens! Tell me something , I have a rooster that chase us when we let him out. How can we stop him? My children don't like to let him out because of this reason.

@yfz450wicked You need a male rooster, and a hen. And put them together. that is all >.> Then you will get firtlized eggs, then keep them warm and in about 21 days they'll hatch ^^ Good luck!

if you have a hen and a rooster your hen will lay an egg and sit on it for abou 30 days then the egg will hatch hopefully
9benelli7 2 years ago
Yes you do need a rooster to have chicks, but you will have to wait for a hen to go broody and sit on the eggs before they will actually hatch.
It takes around 21 days for eggs to hatch,-my chicks are hatching in 14 days!
hope that helps! =)

Umm, it depends on the breed. Some breeds lay sooner and some later. Breeds that are bred for egg production usually start laying sooner then breeds bred for other uses.
