At the end he is singing Glory, Glory, Hallelujah. He tells about how it is a battle song from the “northern states” (meaning I guess US) and it shows that music is similar everywhere.

He continues by saying that they also live in “northern states” and need a battle song as there are some who want to use every last stone of the hills (tunturi, fjäll) to build holiday cities.

  • The song is called Reindeer Joiku.

He starts by telling that reindeers are close to the heart of the Saame people (Arctic indigenous people living in Northern Finland, Sweden and Norway).

It is then natural also to sing (joik) about them.

  • Thanks a lot for sharing this. I had found this in YLE archive long time ago, but did not have technical possibility to bring it to youtube. This is now in favorites. :-)

  • Yess, kiitos Nils-Aslak!

  • @tuulabruno Kiitos!
