THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN -- AUTOMATIC -- Expanded Edition
2 CD + DVD in digipak
EDSG 8008

• Inspired by hip-hop, the vision the Reid Brothers had in mind for their third studio album was a sound that fused rock'n'roll with the latest technology. Automatic experimented with drum machines, samples and sequenced bass, but never lost sight of their gift for great pop hooks and buzzsaw guitars. A tight and concise album bursting with catchy melodies, this is probably the easiest entry point into The Jesus And Mary Chain back catalogue for the casual listener.

• This deluxe expanded edition features all the non-album b-sides, the pre-Automatic Sidewalking EP, outtakes, the complete BBC Radio Sessions the band recorded in this period, live tracks previously unreleased on CD, and rarities such as the 1988 re-record of early b-side "Just Out Of Reach" and a radio advertisement for the US leg of the Automatic tour.

• The 50-minute DVD features the promo videos for all the singles, the band-made film for "Just Out Of Reach" (first time on DVD), and previously unreleased archival TV appearances, including two complete live performances from SNUB TV, an interview at their rehearsal studio for Rapido, and two MTV features, including an entertainingly confrontational interview with the Reid brothers by a hapless VJ.

• The 24 page booklet contains exclusive new interviews that tell the band's story in their own words, alongside lyrics, rare memorabilia and previously unpublished photos.

  • JAMC were amazing...saw them 2 more times...never disappointed.

  • Yeah GrendelZ....I saw the same tour but had a completely different experience..They played the Cuban Club in Tampa, Florida. NIN hadn't yet broke top 40 radio..played a quick and sloppy set with a lot of the usual early Trent pissing and moaning with his bandmates.

  • I saw these guys in February 1990 touring for this album. They had this small group opening for them called Nine Inch Nails....I remember nearly every song NIN played, but JAMC didn't impress live.
