The Pier Aquarium in St. Petersburg, FL, welcomes three new additions to our family! Three Coral Catsharks are the first babies born here at our aquarium. We couldn't be more proud of our first step into the adventures of parenthood!
The three shark babies have different birthdays.
* Baby Coral Catshark #1 was born Monday, Nov. 1.
* Baby Coral Catshark #2 was born Wednesday Nov. 17.
* Baby Coral Catshark #3 was born Wednesday, Nov. 30.
The weight and length of all at birth was approximately .32 oz. (9 grams) and 4" (10.2 cm).

The Pier Aquarium, established in 1988, is a private, non-profit aquarium and marine education center located in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida at The Pier. More than 200,000 visitors, including 29,000 who participate in our educational programs, come to The Pier Aquarium annually. Volunteers contribute more than 4,600 hours annually.
The Pier Aquarium showcases 19 tanks of live fish and other marine life and educational exhibits on the first and second floors. Ongoing exhibits include: Counting on Fish and Focus on Fish; A Sea of Sound; Into the Eye: Hurricanes!; Oceans: The Big Picture and Tampa Bay: Species of Concern.
The mission of the Pier Aquarium is to enhance the publics understanding of the value and fragility of the local and global marine environment through research, education and personal experiences.

  • The bamboo shark likes to get into all the action. Yes, it is a bamboo shark. The coral catsharks were not swimming around when we did the videotaping.

  • @mitchell527100 at least 6 foot long. 180 gallons, it would be alright in 150 though. Most people will recomend over that but sharks dony always grow to there maximum recorded lengths either

  • they are considered both and that was a white spotted bamboo shark or chiloscyllium plagiosum by its scientific name...
