Alcatraz Cellhouse Audio Tour. Alcatraz Island is located in the San Francisco Bay, 1.5 miles offshore from San Francisco, California. Often referred to as The Rock, the small island early-on served as a federal prison until 1963. In 1972, Alcatraz became a national recreation area.

Today, the island is a historic site operated by the National Park Service as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and is open to tours. Visitors can reach the island by ferry ride from Pier 33, near Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. Alcatraz has been featured in many movies, TV shows, cartoons, books, comics, and games.

  • Coolsladen, the prisons closed. No ones there anymore, so no, nobodies in their cells

  • pretty detailed info thx alot for it didnt look awesome when u were sitting there

  • Great Video. Would love to see more.......

  • @Rileyma1999 Alcatraz is open. If you want to see certain parts of it, like the Dungeons, you better go really really soon, as they will be closed for quite a while for renovations once they begin. Cell block A needs to be renovated for earthquakes. Tickets are only like $29, they include your ferry rides there/back and your admission. The Night Tour is the one that shows you the dungeons.

  • I thought this place closed like 10 years ago? Anyone know if its still open it would be a pretty AMAZING trip to be on....

  • If I ever visit Alcatraz Island, I want to trace the footsteps of Morris and the Anglin Brothers who escaped on 11 June 1962 and were never seen again

  • When you visit Alcatraz Island, are you allowed to visit the cells belonging to Frank Morris, John Anglin and Clarence Anglin? After Morris and the Anglin brothers escaped on 11 June 1962, are there any prisoners using their cells?

  • Do you really need a permit to visit Angel Island in San Francisco, California?

Note: I am talking about Angel Island in San Francisco, California!
