Actually, most of those were real guns, and almost all of them, real or fake, are from my personal collection. The muzzle flashes and gunshots were added in post production, since we can't afford blanks. However within the next year I'm planning on buying the equipment to make blanks, as I personally hate using digital effects when doing the real thing is possible.

Thanks! I just uploaded another clip from this one, the last clip from the feature is coming later this week. But we've already shot the first season of the show that follows the movie: it'll be coming online next month probably, once we're done in post production.
And yeah, I try to do the costumes as well as possible: it's one thing I can get done well easily on short money. All the costumes in this cost less than $20 each or so. I got a lot of inspiration from Fallout, Firefly & Mad Max.

Great show! I love post-apoc stories and I'm really enjoying this so far! When will the rest of the episodes be up? =o
By the way, I thought the costumes were pretty cool. The dudes in gas masks were creepy, and the bandits (I think they were bandits) looked like they came straight out of Fallout! Awesome!
is the character with the leg brace and brando jacket the same guy from part 4ish with the leg wound and the cigar (its an obvious tribute to the road warrior max :) good job)

Yeah, it's the same guy. And yeah, the leg brace was meant as a nod to Mad Max, though the leather jacket was just a coincidental costume choice.

so far, i am very well drawn in and i really like the story. WHat's the story behind all the western guns being used along with modern guns? people robbed museums?

While by the strictest genre definitions Mad Nation would be a "contemporary post-apocalyptic Western", we decided to think of it as western first, then everything else second. Thus, some of the costumes, props, weapons, locations, and also most of the shooting style and choreography were modeled more after westerns than anything else. The principle inspiration for the series was the westerns of Clint Eastwood and Sergio Leone.

Also, almost all of the gunshot sound effects were ones we recorded using the actual firearms: when you hear a gun fired on screen, the sound you hear is usually from that same gun, or in one or two cases at least a similar gun.
