This video was taken during our vacation to the Black Hills of South Dakota in 2003. This monument to Crazy Horse is being sculpted in 3-D Panoramic view. When complete, it is said the 4 heads of Mt. Rushmore could fit inside the horse's head.
The story is told that when the family that is building the monument approached the federal government for funding help in the early years, the feds turned them down.
Years later when it became politically correct to support Indians and their causes, the feds tried to hone in on the action - but the family basically told them to take a hike.
They rejected the federal offer on the principal that when they (the family) needed them, the government had no interest. Only when it became politically expedient did the feds show interest - by then the family had vowed to do it on their own.
It's quite a feat - and probably won't be done in my lifetime... or even my kids' lifetime.
Oh yea... it's a multi-generational project, and is going to takes many years to finish. They work on it all the time, but there's so much "ground" and prep work they have to do. It won't be finished in my lifetime.
When I first saw it back in the late 80's there was no face. It's a big undertaking. Thanks for looking in.
