Installation by Matt Rogalsky for 12 guitars, premiered at Open Ears Music Festival 2011, Kitchener Ontario Canada. 12 guitars (each tuned to one pitch of the 12 tone equal tempered scale) shadow frequency content of a live classic rock radio station. The guitar pickups are wired "backwards" to make the strings resonate, creating a cloud of resonances which follow the songs on the radio. The radio station is not heard directly.

  • Each guitar has a piezo pickup installed on the trem block, wired to the output jack.

  • Is there a website that has specific details of how this was created? I get the concept but just can't figure out, how practically it was done. Fascinating, egalitarian and practical part of me wonders, 'wow, all those guitars and amps are identical........what the hell did it cost to put this together'. It's a fascinating concept at the barest minimum. Nice work.

  • this is definitely something I'd have to see in person to really know how it is done. I understand using one pickup as a speaker, like what Michael Brook did for his sustaining set up. So is each guitar wired with two sets of cables. One to put the sound INTO the guitar and the other to get it back out again?
