This is my review of the recent Roy Harper 70th Birthday Concert at the Royal Festival Hall, London on the 5th November 2011. Guests at the concert included Nick Harper, Joanna Newsom and Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin.

  • @thewordofgord Glad you enjoyed it and that the power of my words were transportive. I am humbled by your comment. Thanks

  • Nice review, Jimmy only played one number with Roy though by the way, Same Old Rock (from Stormcock) An excellent evening..

  • @reldditmot I know. It was gone 1 o'clock in the morning, I'd had a long and busy day and my mouth was very tired hence the random slew of jumbled words that spewed from it.

  • Hi, I actually work as a stagehand at Royal Festival Hall, and was sitting at the lighting desk for the whole performance, loved every minute! Been working there few years now, and Roys gig was one I wont forget! Also, two and a half thousand people singing Happy Birthday to the artist on stage was a Festival Hall golden moment! Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the review...

  • Very eloquent review. I was also in attendance in a box on the opposite side. It was also my first time seeing Roy (though I've been a fan for 30+ years) and my first trip to England as well. Beautiful country with lots to see. I had a fantastic vacation and the concert was like the icing on the cake. Cheers!

  • @vrooomuk It's just me being anal, no worries, I was lucky to get front row tickets, it was definitely one of the most memorable Roy gigs I've been to, a fantastic celebration of Roy's work..

  • Excellent review. I was there too, have seen RH many times and last night was certainly one of the best and most memorable- a very emotional night as you say. His voice was sounding incredible, I wondered if he might have lost some vocal power given his age- not a bit of it.

  • wow theres a name i havent heard in a long time, went to see him like 20+ yrs ago in the royal court[i think] here in liverpool, it was great and there was a very thick pungent smoke hanging around the venue as i recall :) i would have loved to have seen him and jimmy, goto grab a chance to see these guys before they check out :/

i managed to get to see bb king and james brown, who was supporting the chili peppers of all bands , shud have been the other way round imho :)

    thanks for the review :)

  • Great review. I wish I was there. Cheers!
