At long last, a solid recording of The Pines:

My great-grandfather called the pines
that drew his mountain's boundary lines
in names of whispered lovers in the dark
and breathed his soul into their bark.

And who am I but his seedling to grow so tall?
For my bones to cry for home inside his trees?
Will my fingertips grow strong
against the grain of all I've sawn
as I learn all the true tones of what I bleed?

I've been the stubborn son who fell across highways
with a beggar's cry for home across my smile...
And I'll be the humble son who prayed so hard for grace
as it dwelt on within me all the while...

My mother whispered me into life
and sang me into a full-grown man
All her words: the love of God,
knowing I'd learn to bear my loss
and sing that same song right out from where I stand.

Now, my arms are only wide as this river is long
I beg you: watch it off the mirror of my eye
so that when our gazes meet
there may be nothing in between
the golden light that fills your heart in perfect time
and the grace that calls your own so dear to mine...

I've been the stubborn son who fell across highways
with a beggar's cry for home across my smile
And I'll be the humble son who prayed so hard for grace
while it dwelt on within me all the while...

Will my daughters know the name of the God to whom I sing?
Will my sons drag that same name through the mud?
Only to return home
with broken hearts and wearied bones
to know the only song I ever sang was love,
and it's all I ever asked for from above...

I've been the stubborn son who fell across highways
with a beggar's cry for home across my smile
And I'll be the humble son who prayed so hard for grace
while it dwelt on within me all the while...

  • @erted24 - Thanks! I've got a new one up for ye as of tonight, too.

  • do recording again without the distortion, just turn the gain way level way down, its distracting from the song, which could be good I think :)

  • @vttompkins Did the best I could with the tools I've got available, but I'll keep you updated when I finally get a recording done that sounds as epic as I want it to. Trust me, I'm pretty antsy about that, too!
