@eunegin Please don't shout :-) I also saw him as Rig in Vienna. He didn't want any photos using flash, he explained that it's because of his contact lenses. Anyway, I guess he's not too crazy about being photographed, he's a person, not a monument :-)
BTW, what is the Onegin like? (I don't mean vocally, of course :-) ) DH himself seemed quite enraged about the production.

I HAVE SEEN D.H. lately here in vienna; first rigoletto , then eugen onegin yesterday-- excellent of course. I ALSO SAW HIM AFTERWARDS AND NOTICED THAT HE DOESN'T WANT ANY PHOTOS TAKEN AND IS QUITE ADAMANT ABOUT IT: I don't remember THIS FROM BEFORE: ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS?

@frufruJ I just had a lengthy conversation with a Russian Painter and she has related to me that they call people by the Patronymics for respect and warm regard.

Russians are more formal about these things. Calling him just 'Dmitri' would be intimate to the point of insulting, like calling Sinatra 'Franky' but 'Dmitri Hvorostovsky' is too formal.
