This is the sequel to FightFightHST - A Letter to Bill Vander Zalm. Chris Delaney and Bill Vander Zalm have been still misinforming people, and here we are again. Remember, voting NO means that we're keeping the HST, and that's what I'm obviously recommending.

And just for the record, the Liberals didn't pay me to do this. I'll say it again - the Liberals didn't pay me to do this, and I did this on my own, at home. I've received exactly two free meals because of these videos, along with the metric e-ton of hate-comments.

  • Is the anti-HST camp composed completely of old men who sat around in lawn chairs yakking to each other about things without using the internet to back up their complaints?

I opposed the HST until I found out exactly what it does for the economy, and the benefits far outweigh the very few disadvantages. I'd like my industry to thrive and not be shipped off to Ontario (Hint: I'm talking about Film&TV, the world's most portable and tax-credit-reliant industry) thankyouverymuch Bill!

  • ANY tax scheme can be adapted to provide these benefits or disadvantages. The details behind HST is that it promotes raw material exports as the breadwinner of BC's economy, and that it is a disadvantage to the service and information sectors. In theory the manufacturing sector will benefit, but British Columbia's manufacturing sector is small, and largely dependent on using local resources from the primary sector provided they aren't exported.

  • well, looks like we'll probably have another HST debate in a few years but this time it had better be explained to everyone before it's mandated out of le nowhere

  • @adrianlim118 LMAO, Why dont you look up the small % of New home purchases vs. existing homes. Then get back to me with that number. Any other comment will be ignored.

  • Damn, just watched this now, that was damn good. Sure makes me miss the HST though.

  • @teknokracy thanks bud, you said everything I was going to say.....I work in film too.....and it's only ONE of the industries that benefits TREMENDOUSLY from the HST....I also want to keep it because I'm concerned for the future BC my nephew has to look forward to.

  • A lot if people don't realize that there are GST/HST rebates on new home purchases, you don't get the full amount rebated but you do get a portion back based on a certain formula. However, you do get back a greater portion of the Tax you paid because now your getting a bit of the PST back as oppose to the old system where you only got a portion of the GST you paid rebated, but you were still paying PST hidden the price of a new home ANYWAY. I hope that makes sense

  • @marketbuzzca Actually, yes it is. Previously owned houses are in the higher price brackets. Newer homes such as townhouses are cheaper but still over $400,000. Condominiums are probably the more affordable ones and even those are subject to HST on monthly strata fees now.

  • @adrianlim118 Wait, so you are saying that BUILDING from scratch, is MORE affordable than purchasing an existing home? Please do tell me what area in Vancouver(since the world revolves around Vancouver) is it cheaper to buy new than purchase previously owned? OR is it possible that its to prevent people from knocking down $1 Mill properties to build $2.5 millr properties? Think its hard to live near Van now? wait till the most inexpensive house on EVERY block is flattened and replaced

  • @marketbuzzca I don't think you quite understand. There are no used houses that are affordable for the current generation of home buyers. The average house price in Vancouver is close to $800,000. Therefore, a prospective house buyer in the working class would be forced to purchase a NEW home subject to HST which in general is over $400,000. Sad that I had to explain that in such detail for you to understand.

  • @adrianlim118 Exactly my point.... Thank you Adrianlim118.... if you'd like, you can purchase a 2 billion dollar home in Vancouver that is greater than 1 year old, and not pay the additional tax. The point is this, you can avoid the tax by purchasing a house that is not new at any price. The new tax only applys to NEW homes....
