Both Garek and Dukat were Cardassians trying to redeem themselves. Difference, Dukat does it to attempt to impress others, Garek does it to save his soul. At the end, Garek stayed the course of redemption and was saved, where as Dukat dove deeper into his darkness until it consumed him.

@MicalLex And thanks to that we can now make jokes on Trek Radio involving the Kardashians! XD

According to "A stitch in time", one of the Star Trek writers (Jeri Taylor) came up with the name "Circassians". After being told that there was an ancient tribe she played with the word which finally resulted in "Cardassians".

@Draknfyre Sure they would. The Klingons were named after someone Gene Roddenberry knew. As was Khan Nonien Singh.
-
Still unlikely. They don't generally name alien races after people like that in the show.
-
@Draknfyre Robert Kardashian was well known as a big time lawyer back then.
-
Considering the race was named back in 1991, that's unlikely.

My mum's obsessed with star trek, and when she went into labour 14 years ago with my brother, she was watching it and she named him Elam after Elim x)

Garak is priceless.

@InsideCellardoor Maybe the name came from Robert Kardashian.
Are you freakin insane? Garak knew what was going on the whole time. He didn't even have to be told why he was being given the information. Garak, master spy/assassin, son of Enabran Tain, head of the Obsidian Order, knew EXACTLY what was going on the whole time.
Didn't you even watch the damned show? Duh.

Wow you really think Garak wasn't aware of what was going on? That this spy just thought that they weren't aware of him listening, that he needed to take Sisko's measurements while he already had them? This master of the game of manipulation?
