Oasis- Boy With the Blues

Teeter Games: As prescribed by Rita (RitaCockerBCResQs) we have begun some teeter games to help Aspen's confidence with the teeter. This is the version of the "bang-it" game that we are working on. Aspen is really improving. You can tell in the very last clip that she doesn't like leaving the board because the board makes a loud noise when she gets off. We are working on that, and she has gotten much faster at jumping off when I say "okay". Try not to notice how terrible I am at clicker training! I click at the most random times, probably when I shouldn't, but I am working on it.

Course Work: This was a breakthrough agility session for us. I had her favorite toy (a squeaky squirrel) and treat pouch with some cheese. I set her squirrel where she could see it on top of her crate, then led her to the start line. I was the loudest, most obnoctious cheerleader ever! She flew through the course and I gave her some cheese, then we ran to the crate and I tossed her squirrel. She though that was the greatest thing, and you can see her little victory laps carrying her toy around for everyone to see. I think spicing up our session like that really made a difference, and made agility less monotonous. We both had a lot of fun!

This will be our last training video before our trial, September 18-19. Wish us luck, we can't wait to see all of you who are coming!

  • Keep going on the contacts she is getting there! :) Have you tried clicking the second she looks at or she touches the teeter instead of when she retreats though? I would give that a shot and then when she if comfy, ask for more touch before clicking. You realize of course, I have ZERO clicker training experience right? :) I do use 'yes' though in place of, I'm too uncoordinated to click at the right time, I'm no poodle for sure! :) Go Aspen!

  • Haha yes, that is what I am going for, but I am not that great at it either. I haven't worked on it much lately, but hopefully after our next trial I will have more time to work on this.

  • Gooo Aspen! She is soo beast, I love herr :D. Shes really tackling that teeter, and as far as Im concerned you are a supastar at that clicker. Aspen is soo freaken fast! You guys are going to doo amazing at your trial! GOOD LUCK! Really wish I could be there :(

  • Haha thank you. I wish you could come too! Hopefully we will see you some other time :)

This base was PVC and adjustable, but it broke recently. I am working on building a new one with a wooden base. I really don't know the dimensions, but just search the internet, there are all different plans, look through them and find one that suits you. Aspen is heavy enough that the base we chose wore out after a couple years. If your dog Stormy isn't too big, PVC bases should hold up fine.

  • I can't wait to see yall tonight!! :D I have a feeling someone's getting a couple Q's!! ;D

  • man, I love Aspen!!! shes awesome!!! such a speedy little girl! I love how her tail wags lol. nice teeter work, she'll be loving the teeter in no time! great distance too! well done :)

  • Good luck at the trial! I'm sure you'll do amazing though. Her drive is awesome and you got some great distance!

  • Also remember a click always equals a treat so if you click you have to give a treat!

She has gained so much speed when running a course and I just love her weaves!! Her distance is also reallyyy awesomeee

  • Aw Aspen sure doesnt like that teeter bang, poor girl. Your doing the right thing wtih her tho!! I would try clicking sooner, like not expecting her to fully push it down at first, go for her just putting one paw on because pretty soon she will start offering both paws and pushing it down, maybe even try putting her reward on the board! She is so adorable and I have a trial that same weekend!! =) Love what you did for that course thats really great, I do alot of stuff like that with Rosco!

  • Aspen reminds me so much of Tanner, it's funny!

I love the teeter games! Nice method.

  • The work you did with her teeter looks really good when I finally build mine I'm going to definatley do some of that work! Her distance is so good! She is really fast!
