I will agree that Pavlova got shafted and Khorkina was overscored on the bars, but that is what a reputation can do. Carly you rock, great performance!!!!

It doesn't matter who is the better gymnast, It's about who is the best and most consistent that night in that competition. Besides that Carly is a very talented gymnast and has plenty of all around titles to show for that. You are also right on the note that Romania is very strong and consistent in gymnastics which is why they won gold in the team finals. The simple fact is, that night Carly was the best all around and so she won the title she deserved.

and im not sure if youre accusing me of favoritism or not, but shannon miller is a very popular gymnast, and yes shes from the usa. of course nadias name is synonymous with gymnastics,but im pretty sure miller has more overall medals than her and most of the others mentioned above. patterson was the best that night and so she won the gold

well ponor was awesome on beam, but just like patterson in the all around ponor had it handed to her. she wasnt the best on floor, but on that night no one could beat her. both dos santos and fei were clearly better. ponor couldnt do a twisting element w/o crossing her legs if her life depended on it.

carly's floor routine was horrible, she looked like a robot, and i give you an example Catalina ponor was so much better in the beam, and in the floor, she won the gold medal in both...and Romania won the gold medal in the all around team.
OHHH! i have to say too that in the gymnastics history USA hasn't been the favorite, all the time gymnastics like, Nadia Comaneci(Romania), Olga Korbut(Rusia), Ekaterina Szabo(romania), Daniela Silivas (Romania) have been the true stars.
