It was Wayne Gretzky's first visit to Pittsburgh and the Penguins set a Civic Arena record for most penalty minutes in a game - 144. The Edmonton Oilers' 123 minutes was also a record. Pens defenseman Russ Anderson set team record for 51 penalty minutes.

I would have loved to be at this game. But I was at the Pens/Isles game in Feb. 2011 to see the Friday night fights.

Awesome you were there! (Im from pittsburgh too). Stupid question I know but what finally started the brawl? Was it just rivalry and tension building up, or was a certain team just askin for a beating and werent there to play hockey. (I actually went to a game where it was clear one knew they were going to lose, so they just started fights for no reason). Or was it civil, and then someone or a team messed it up and then it went from there?
