Hear the Mighty Wurlitzer play at the grand Fox Theatre in Detroit, Mich. The Fox is a National Historic Landmark and has hosted everyone from Frank Sinatra to Elvis to Iggy and the Stooges. The Wurlitzer used to provide sound for films and entertain guests during intermissions and before the show. Sorry for the shakiness and lack of quality; we were sans tripod and top-shelf equipment.

  • I am hoping to see Florence and the Machine play here in July I had two shows to choose from and one look at this venue and I knew I HAD to go there. :D Its fantastically lovely. I can't wait.

  • This organ recital was for the 2010 Downtown Detroit Movie Palace Tours, given the 2nd Saturday of every August by Preservation Wayne, Detroit's premier historic preservation society. The mighty 4/36 Wurlizter organ is one of the 1/2 dozen largest theatre organs in the world.

The 5,174 seat (seating count includes removeable seats in the orchestra section) Detroit Fox is America's largest surviving movie palace from the 1920s. From the main floor to the top of the ceiling dome is 108 ft.

  • I guess the same guy really did make all the foxes. Identical to STL one.

  • Saw the Riverdance there on their last world tour. Amazing place.

  • thats GOT TO BE dave.... yup ... thats Dave Calendine... thats his theme song the Radetsky March

  • The Detroit Fox Theatre rocks , its so nice and awesome. was there about 2 weeks ago for a show !

  • The organist would be house organist Dave Callendine. The music is the Radetsky March by J. Strauss. It is one of Dave's signature tunes. If you search for the music by name you will find another version with video close up with Dave at the console. There is also a second video of him giving a tour of the Fox and playing the same tune from the slave console up in the seating not far from where this vid was shot. You catch a glimpse of it on the right.

  • Wow!

  • who is the organist?

    great video, thanks!!!

  • @kiwiplant It was filmed Saturday.
