This is all the screentime for Rick Hunter in the Robotech movie, The Shadow Chronicles. Robotech, in addition to the characters of Rick Hunter, Vince Grant, General Reinhardt, Louie Nichols, and Sparks, belongs to Harmony Gold. I put this together for no other reason than free information about a very iconic character, absolutely NO copyright infringement intended. This movie can be watched for free on Hulu.com and purchased on DVD & Blu-Ray. I bought the 2-disc Collector's Edition and fully suggest it to those without a Ps3 or Blu-Ray player.

Rick Hunter was, for all intents and purposes, the overall main character of Robotech. He was quite clearly the central focus in The Macross Saga of the series, as well as the movie Robotech II: The Sentinels and 100% canon Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles comics. While the focus of The Masters went to Dana Sterling, the daughter of his best friend, Rick's presence was very well felt through The New Generation as a prominent offscreen character (promoted to Admiral). Here in The Shadow Chronicles, he finally returns to onscreen animation, if only for a couple cameo instances, for the first time since departing Earth with the rest of the REF in Sentinels. We waited 20 years for this, enjoy!

Well, the Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles comic story does explain how Rick was stressed enough to age that much and how he got his scar.

@ellnats Try finding the Trade-Paper-Back comic of Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles, that'll give you a great update on what Rick was up to during The New Generation as it leads up to the events of this movie. :)

@ellnats No, Rick doesn't cheat on Lisa. He does go on a mission to save Minmei from General Edwards, but ultimately doesn't even interact with her. as she's saved by a team led by Jack Baker and Janice. Rick and Lisa are still very happily married, despite the loss of their unborn child, which happens in the climax of Prelude's first chapter. Rick also makes it clear to Lisa in the final chapter, "She's the past, you've nothing to worry about."

Yes it is. Shadow Chronicles is the canon continuation for Robotech and that's indeed Rick, as portrayed by Tony Oliver. He's simply aged a considerable deal, now in his mid-50s. Remember, 30 years have passed between The Macross Saga and Shadow Chronicles, as well as roughly 22 years between this and the Sentinels movie. It's been a while.

@179107199999 Yeah pretty much. If anything at least Harmony Gold is eventually going to explain what happened to Hunter ..... like I said eventually.... maybe.... since it's been almost 6 years and still no Shadow Chronicles sequel, as opposed to Macross where the Megaroad just "disappeared" .

@179107199999 They can't make him look like how he did in the original series. If they did they would be sued by Big West. They have the rights to release the original macross stuff, just not make any new animations with their character and mecha designs.
