Metrolink's F40PHR #800 is (enginewise) an unmodified locomotive since it was in Amtrak service as AMTK 396.

The only changes Metrolink made to it is the paint, addition of a P2 horn (without removal of the original Amtrak K5LA), and the addition of an ATS shoe.

Shot with a Canon Vixia HF R10 and edited with Sony Vegas Pro 9.0.

  • 800 likely had a ATS bracket when it was in Amtrak service. All Amtrak locomotives since the 1970's when Amtrak started doing their own maintenance have had a ATS bracket. When the locomotive is out in the lead on a train like the Chief or the San Diegans way back when, then the actual shoe is added. Idk if Metrolink removed the ATS bracket btn acquisition of 800 & last few months when they installed 79mph ATS.
