To me, this is Greece's finest moment in a long history great moments. I find that the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire to be absolutely fascinating. You have the high, rich culture of Ancient Greece and Rome, mixed with the Medieval devotion to Christianity living on for 1000 years after the fall of Rome.
