in an attempt to treat, and discover the many aliments associated with these fish, I have upload this video.

I take no pleasure in watching these sick fish and I hope you won't either!

This posting is for information only, in an effort to share knowledge and provide a visual to the people trying to assist in a diagnoses.

This link about says it all http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/disease/p/velvet.htm

Power to the fish!

Thanks, I hope you never have these issues with your garden!

Update: 8/17/8 Please see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7Pd4yQhApk and extrapolate to fish. lacto prohibits much of this gram negative bacteria.

  • lacto bacillius anyone?? - as a probiotic for the fish and the system.

I was also wondering how much aeration you had going on.

  • Hey YouAdam, thanks for chiming in Sir. Thank you for the Tip. I wish I knew more... enough to speak to you properly anyway.

Air, besides the beds, I have an external Bunn Air pump used in hospitals O2 tents. My morning DO levels are 100% it's BOD I don't know. I have a lot of drop splash, that's for sure. I can put up a video if it would help you?

treating with Quinine Sulfate for the Ich and Gold/Rust/Velvet Skin is working.

please point me to a good source for the Lacto

    Thanks man!

  • are they in a trash can?....

  • LOL yeah, that's my hasty sick tank, but I can't use it cuz I can't sustain 91F to cycle quickly. So a simple separation treatment will not work. Deep details at BYAP

Thanks for looking in on me lost, you too, NOSMO.

I have learned Quinine Sulfate is PH Neutral, good thing!

  • continued...

You just have to ride it out.

I'm using (after hours and hours & days of reading) Quinine Sulfate. It says, safe for food fish and plants but nothing about +Bacteria. I'm afraid it will destroy the beneficial Bacteria and i'll have to re-cycle... this late in the grow season doesn't bod well for garden! This is tough shit outside.

You can find all the grim details at BYAP. I'm Don_Fish and the thread is, Smokey Mountain Fish.

  • I've lost 22 fish in 10-15 days very slowly.

I'm no expert also but the biggest change was 4 solid days of rain almost 24/7 and a huge cold front.

Other Fish Folks have said, rapid ph change from the water...(i had to drain off about 500 gals. in the 4 days)

stress from the relentless pounding rain...

While still others say, fish always have this stuff from the farm/hatcherys and if conditions deteriorate the slightest, these things will crop up and be uncontrollable.

  • Hi , I left a comment on your other video, again this is due to water quality, constant temp' in the desired range for the species is a must. Deseases are nearly always secondary infections brought on by fish weakened due to water quality. I would start with checking nitrate levels.

  • from wiki:

"Some strains of L. acidophilus may be considered a probiotic or "friendly" bacteria.[2] These types of healthy bacteria inhabit the intestines and vagina and protect against some unhealthy organisms. The breakdown of nutrients by L. acidophilus produces lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, & other byproducts that make the environment hostile for undesired organisms. ..

    It's sold as a health food/ supplement.

make some gel food and grind up a tablet.

    google "Dr higa em1"

  • Wow I can see they are in bad shape, water even looks dead or not clear like it should be. I am no fish expert as far as diseases so I won't guess. How fast did this happen was it like 2 days or 1 week? And what changed may I ask, did anything change to create a situation causing this? I would like to tap off a moving stream like you said and use the water then return it back. I think that concept makes sense.
